About My Wife

Kevin & Marsha 4.jpg

was called 2:45 because it started at 2:45. Her mother always wondered why Marsha came home late at around 5pm but Marsha kept going to the prayer meeting.

Always neatly attired in her Alpha uniform with the many badges lined up on the left of her uniform and the nurses’ watch to top it off. Of course, she was going to pursue nursing when she left school. Marsha was a meticulous and diligent student who would be stressed if she wasn’t doing well. She enjoyed English, French and Spanish but Mathematics was the bane of her existence. She excelled in the business subjects especially Typing and Shorthand and so followed the recommendation of her teachers to attend Alpha Business College right after fifth form between 1993-1996.

Ministry and Salvation

Marsha gave her life to the Lord from her youthful days and lived the scripture “Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth.” Her love for singing and music was quickly identified by Sister Jean Kelly, Music director at Pentab and Marsha gave her life to this ministry from as early as her days at Alpha. Marsha was a part of the Pentab Chorale, the Youth Choir, The combined choir, the Praise Team and the group the Apostolics. Her melodious alto voice enhanced the quality of any singing group that she was a part of. She will be fondly remembered for singing the lead for songs like, “I love the Lord”;  “A Perfect Heart”; “Love Grew”;“Grace will always be Greater than Sin”; “Sometimes it takes a mountain'' and many more.

Marsha was the consummate professional. Her love for administration and her penchant for planning and organizing were key competences that Marsha used to distinguish herself in every sphere of her professional life. Her professional journey started at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade where she worked as a Secretary for many ambassadors, permanent secretaries and Junior Ministers. The next phase of her career took her to Pentecostal Tabernacle Administration. While here she worked in various roles- receptionist, secretary and in the accounting department. Those who would call the offices of PenTab would often comment on the mellifluous voice of Marsha whenever she greeted them on the other end of the line.

In 2018 Marsha became the office administrator for a USAID funded project ZAP. During her tenure with this project her administrative and event-planning skills were on full display. She would organize many events, projects and meetings for the project and complement each event with her signature smile. In January 2020 Marsha served as administrative secretary at the National Solid Waste Management Authority NSWMA. During her tenure at NSWMA Marsha won the hearts of her managers and co-workers as the epitome of Grace and professionalism.

Motherhood and Marriage

Marhsa gave her best in ministry, professionally but most importantly in Motherhood. In 2001, her world was made that much brighter with the birth of her first daughter Tavia-Ann Carr. Marsha was a phenomenal mother to Tavia. Throughout every stage of her life Marsha ensured Tavia lacked nothing and she lived and worked as hard as she did for her happiness.

In 2009 Marsha found love and married her soulmate Kevin Powell. The couple met at church and their love for the music ministry and for each other was the glue that held them together. Her love for her husband was truly unconditional and despite any perceived challenges her love for him was as palpable as life itself. In 2010 the couple welcomed their first child together and Marsha’s second daughter K’Hareece. With the experience that she had honed with Tavia, Marsha again demonstrated that she was a mother par excellence and did all she could in nurturing and rearing her daughters.

Marsha Battles Cancer

In March 2021 Marsha was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, one of the most aggressive cancers which affect black women. Throughout her illness her strength and her grace was on display. The undescering observer could not tell that she was ill because she always wore the biggest smile even under the pain she was experiencing. Always concerned about the well-being of others, Marsha would first inquire about your well-being before offering a response about how she was dealing with her own illness. She approached her ill-ness with a bravery that was not expected. She never missed her chemotherapy appointments or doctor’s visits and was determined and hopeful that she would beat this dreadful disease. The Lord in his sovereign wisdom and power was ready for his rose and on July 11, 20222 recalled her to heaven to be in his garden. She leaves to mourn husband Kevin, daughters Tavia and K’Hareece, Mother Dorothy and Father Clive, Sister Denver and brother Kristoffer; other family and a host of friends.
