ABOUT HOPE HILLARY PEARSON SWABY

Hope Hillary Pearson Swaby, affectionately known as "Hopie," was born on February 13, 1967, in Flagstaff Maroon Town, St. James, as the fourth child of Dennis and Mavis Pearson. Her upbringing in rural Jamaica instilled in her a strong work ethic, as she contributed to her family's sustenance by baking traditional Jamaican treats.

From a young age, Hope's faith played a central role in her life. She was christened as an infant and remained devoted to her Christian beliefs throughout her life. Her dedication to church activities, including singing and leadership roles, highlighted her unwavering commitment to her faith.

Hope's educational journey led her to the Kingston School of Nursing, where she continued her spiritual journey at McDonald Lane NTCOG. Later, in Rock Hall, St. Andrew, she became a cherished member of the Faith Deliverance Church of God, where she not only attended but also led choirs and became a trusted confidant to the pastor.

Despite moving away from her hometown, Hope made the pilgrimage to Flagstaff each Sunday to attend the New Testament Church of God, thanks to the Christys, who transported her. Her passion for singing was evident, and she was a beloved figure at funerals and special events.

In her professional life as a nurse, Hope's faith remained a cornerstone. She provided solace and support to her hospital community during times of loss, organizing memorial services and leading the congregation in song.

While Hope didn't have biological children, she embraced her role as a mother to her step-daughters and step-grandchildren, as well as countless children in her community and church. Her impact on their lives was immeasurable.

SIBLINGS TRIBUTE TO HOPIE

CROSSING OVER -

Oh, please don't feel guilty
It was ju
st my time to go.
I see you are still feeling sad,
And the tears just seem to flow.
We all come to earth for our lifetime,
And for some it's not many years
I don't want you to k
eep crying
You are shedding so many tears.
I haven't really left you
Even though it may seem so.
I have just gone to my heavenly home,
And I'm closer to you than you know.
Just believe that when you say
my name, I'm standing next to you,
I know you long to see me,
But there's nothing I can do.
But I'll still send you messages
And hope you understand,
That when your time comes to
Cross over, I'll be there
To take your hand.

NADINE'S  TRIBUTE TO HOPE

It's with a heavy heart that I write this tribute to honour and remember the beautiful soul that you were. Losing you has left an irreplaceable void in my life, but I am grateful for the time we had together and the memories we created.

You were not just my sister; you were my confidant, my partner in crime, and my best friend. From the earliest days of our childhood, we shared countless giggles, adventures, and secrets. You were the one who could always make me smile, even on my darkest days.

Your kindness knew no bounds. Your compassionate heart reached out to anyone in need, and your nurturing nature touched the lives of so many. Your presence brought comfort and solace, like a warm embrace that could make any pain dissipate. You were a source of strength, both for me and for others who were lucky enough to know you.

The memories we shared are like precious gems I hold close to my heart. From laughing until our stomachs hurt to sharing deep conversations about life's joys and struggles, every moment was a testament to the depth of our bond. Those memories will forever be etched in my mind, reminding me of the love we shared and the laughter we had.

You possessed a rare combination of grace and resilience. Despite the challenges life threw at you, you faced them with unwavering courage and a determination that was truly inspiring. Your unwavering spirit taught me to never give up and to always find strength within, even in the face of adversity.

As I remember you, I am reminded of all the lives you touched. Your infectious laughter, warm smile, and genuine compassion left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross your path. You made the world a better place, and your legacy will continue to inspire kindness and love.

Though your physical presence may be gone, I feel you with me always. You are the whisper of the wind, the warmth of the sun, and the twinkle of the stars in the night sky. I find solace in knowing that you're watching over me, guiding me through life's ups and downs.

I am forever grateful that you were my sister, and I will cherish the memories we shared for the rest of my days. I take comfort in knowing that one day, we will be reunited again, and until then, I will hold you close in my heart.

Rest in eternal peace, dear sister. Your love, your light, and your beautiful spirit will never be forgotten.

With all my loveYour little sis

RADCLIFF'S TRIBUTE - TO HOPE

Tribute to my departed Sister Hopie:

My remembrance of Hope Pearson Swaby, my sibling that followed me while growing up.  Hope was not just my sister, she was my confidant, my friend and at times my source of strength.  Her departure has left a void that cannot be filled, and I find solace in the cherished memories we created together.  Hope was always a very quiet person but also a no-nonsense person.  We grew up in the church, and at a tender age, she gave her heart to Jesus.  Following that decision, I have never heard Hope uttered or used any expletive or unkind words.  She had a way of making everyone around her feel loved and valued.  Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds and she touched the hearts of everyone she met.

Although Hope never gave birth to a child of her own, she mothered  and cared for so many children, and treated them as her own . Hope was not a career farmer but she sowed many seeds, not just agricultural seeds,  but many positive and spiritual seeds that impacted many lives. Hope was an avid believer in tithing.

I can remember some fun times with Hope, while in Grade one  at school she was asked ‘what was her gender’,  the correct answer should have been male or female, but she didn't understand the question that was asked, so she gave her answer as “I am a HopieJ”.  I can also remember one day Hope and I were playing and my hand accidentally hit her in her eye and she started crying my parents asked what happened and I was so afraid of spanking so I replied “ a gu back mi hand gu back an hit her in her eye”!

Although Hope and  I were physically miles apart, in different countries, we still found time to talk  a lot.  I will forever miss my dear sister and friend, and I will always cherish the beautiful memories we shared. May her soul Rest In Peace.

From Brother Radcliffe Pearson.

I thought of you today.

But that’s nothing new.

I thought about you yesterday.

And days before that too.

I think of you in silence.

And often speak your name.

Al I have are memories and

Your picture in a frame.

Your memory is a keepsake.

From which I will never part.

God has you in His arms.

I have you in my heart.

FLAGSTAFF NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH OF GOD

The Flagstaff New Testament Church of God pays tribute to our beloved Sister Hope Pearson Swaby, a remarkable servant of God whose life touched us all.

Sister Hope's journey began within these very walls, as she embraced Christ at a tender age of 8, under the guidance of the late Reverend Ernest Daley. From that moment, her unwavering faith set her on a path of service, and her flag of dedication always flew high over the Flagstaff church.

Throughout her life, Sis Hope embodied the essence of a true servant leader. She wore many hats, from Sunday school teacher to Lay Preacher, and served selflessly in various capacities within our church. Her commitment to continuous learning allowed her to stay current and equipped her for the Lord's work.

Sister Hope was not just an ordinary servant; she brought professionalism and exemplary work ethics to every task. Her vision extended beyond our church walls, evidenced by her creation of the "Samaritan Purse" charitable project, which brought joy to countless children and gratitude from their parents.

Her impact wasn't limited to youth work; she touched every corner of our church life. Her caring and gentle spirit, coupled with her wisdom, made her a sought-after advisor and a beloved friend.

Sis Hopie was a true worshipper, lifting both hands in praise to heaven and singing melodiously. Her rendition of 'Lord lift me up and let me stand' and 'Every Praise belong to God' resonated in our hearts.

As we celebrate Sister Hope's life and legacy, let us pledge to honor her memory by emulating the values and attitude she displayed as a Child of God. We bid farewell to a tireless worker, a visionary, and a loving soul, but we take solace in the knowledge that we will meet her by the beautiful shores of glory.

Rest in Peace, dear Sister Hope. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and in the lives you touched.

CORNWALL REGIONAL TRIBUTE FOR HOPE PEARSON SWABY

We are indeed saddened as a nursing team to lose yet another member. Sister Hope Pearson -Swaby joined us here at Cornwall Regional Hospital in 2004 and completed her Midwifery Programme. She then went on to do Nursing Administration, becoming a Ward Manager.

Her coming to Cornwall Regional Hospital was a 'coming home' as she hailed from this side of the island, her home base being in Maroon Town. Sister Hope Swaby being the friendly, jovial, and loving person soon became integrated fully into the CRH family. She demonstrated that nursing was her 'calling' but also showed above all that she was a 'servant of God.’.'

It was no wonder that Hospital Christian Fellowship was so important to her and to her work as a nurse. She believed in addressing the 'spiritual man' and made sure to carry out her purpose with precision. Blessed with a melodious voice she used this medium to advance in her Ministry.

Her Ministry's work gradually took on a higher level as she was elected to lead the Cornwall Regional Hospital's Christian Fellowship. This she did with pride and represented us on the regional platform as recent as 2021.

Our hearts ache with pain, because of losing her. This is because we are mere mortals. We are reminded however in the holy scriptures that we should not weep as those without hope, but we are assured that those who die in Christ, will live again. We are also assured that death will be no more and that there will be no more crying or sorrow.

To the family, we say, be comforted by the words of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, knowing that his promises are sure.

Eulogy of Hope Hillary Pearson Swaby

The Story of a Life Well Lived

Ladies and gentlemen, we gather here today to celebrate the remarkable life of a truly special individual, Mrs. Hope Hillary Pearson Swaby, affectionately known as "Hopie" to her beloved family and friends. Hopie's life journey began on February 13, 1967, in the tranquil farming district of Flagstaff Maroon Town, St. James. She was the fourth child born to her loving parents, Dennis and Mavis Pearson. From these humble beginnings, she embarked on a path that would touch the lives of many and leave an indelible mark on our hearts.

During her formative years in Georges Valley, Hopie embodied the spirit of hard work and determination that was a hallmark of rural Jamaican life. She lent her hand to her parents' farm, and her culinary skills were showcased in the delicious patties, coco bread, and bulla she helped create for the family's small business. These early experiences taught her the value of diligence and perseverance.

However, it was within the walls of the church that Hopie found her true calling. Church was her cornerstone for socialization and spiritual growth, a place where she was immersed in the Christian way of life from infancy. Her commitment to her faith led her to actively participate in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and various other church activities. At the tender age of eight, Hopie was baptized and became a devoted member of the Flagstaff New Testament Church of God, where she faithfully worshipped until God called her home.

Her educational journey commenced at Miss Jolly's Basic School and continued at Shaw Castle Primary School. At Shaw Castle, her teachers took immense pride in her quiet determination and unwavering dedication to excellence. Hopie's exceptional performance in the Common Entrance Examination opened the doors to the prestigious Mount Alvernia High School in Montego Bay, this was a moment of immense pride and joy for her family.
